Dates Announced for 2025 Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress in Chicago

The 2025 Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress, the world’s largest annual gathering focused on action-forward, knowledge-based and inclusive approaches to sustainability, will be held in Chicago from June 16-20, 2025.

The University of Illinois System is the host institution and co-organizer. This is the event’s first occurrence in the United States. The five-day SRI2025 will build upon the momentum from the four preceding SRI Congresses in Australia, South Africa, Panama and Finland.

Taking place at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk hotel, the in-person and remote event will share implementation strategies and legacies of successful approaches to critical sustainability concerns facing Chicago, the region, the nation and the globe. It will also provide opportunities to overcome engagement, policy, resourcing and other hurdles in an effort to accelerate transformation to sustainable futures.

“SRI2025 will convene people committed to sustainability, from experts to community activists, from all over the world. Together, they will explore innovative and implementable solutions that will lead to better outcomes for our children and grandchildren,” U of I System President Tim Killeen said. “The U of I System’s history as a leader makes us the perfect host for such a forum.”

“SRI2025 marks the fifth anniversary of the SRI series and we are looking forward to working with our hosts and co-organizers in Chicago to further grow the scope and significance of this global event,” said Erica Key, Future Earth US Global Hub Director, Nicole Arbour, Belmont Forum Executive Director, and Veera Mitzner, SRI Director. “We are looking for impact, and the U of I Systems is the right partner on this journey.”

Since 2021, the SRI Congress series has been co-convened by the Belmont Forum, an international funding platform addressing the world’s most pressing environmental change issues, and Future Earth, a global constellation of researchers and practitioners supporting informed transformations to sustainability.
