The SRI/SSD2024 Congress will take place in person at the University of Helsinki and Aalto University in Finland. The SRI2024 Congress is being organized in collaboration with Sustainability Science Days (SSD) which for over six years has been the largest sustainability science conference in Finland. SSD is a joint collaborative effort between Finland’s two largest universities, the University of Helsinki, and Aalto University.

The Congress aims to bring together participants from SRI and SSD for one whole week. Sessions will be hosted at Aalto University on June 10 and June 11, 2024, and at the University of Helsinki on June 13 and June 14.

On June 12, the Congress will open its doors to local audiences during its Open Day event, hosted in various locations.

Please fill out the form in the button below if you need an invitation letter to apply for a visa.

Venues

Aalto University
10 – 11 June, 2024

The main conference venue for the first two days (Monday and Tuesday) is located at Aalto University’s campus in Espoo, at the Undergraduate Centre’s Y-wing Otakaari 1, 02150 Espoo

  • More info about the Aalto campus
  • Accessible entrance:
The building has multiple accessible doors. We recommend using the F door to access the “Y-wing” (the blue area in the map below) of the building.
    • Contact number for Y-wing’s lobby service: 0504723620

If you’re coming to Aalto from Helsinki city centre, the easiest and most direct option is to take the metro west from Kamppi metro station, step off at ‘Aalto University’ stop and head towards “Otaniementie” exit. You will need a ticket for the AB zone.

University of Helsinki
12 – 14 June, 2024

The University of Helsinki’s venues are right at the heart of the city.

The venues at Fabianinkatu 26 (Kielikeskus/Language centre), Yliopistonkatu 3 (Porthania) and Fabianinkatu 33 (Päärakennus/Main building) are all close together and all have accessible entrances.

Fabianinkatu 26 (Language centre) has an accessible entrance in the building’s inner courtyard. Yliopistonkatu 3 (Porthania) is accessible through the main entrance, and Fabianinkatu 33 (Main building) is accessible through the entrance on Fabianinkatu’s side. If you need assistance with accessibility, you may contact the lobby services of the building.

  • Fabianinkatu 26 (Language centre) lobby services: 0294122696
  • Yliopistonkatu 3(Porthania) lobby services: 0294122561
  • Fabianinkatu 33 (Main building) lobby services: 0294122337

Helsinki City Hall

Helsinki City hall is within walking distance of the University of Helsinki, at Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13.

Traveling to the

Venues

If possible, we recommend sustainable mobility when traveling to the venue!

Public transportation runs smoothly in the Helsinki metropolitan region and is the most convenient way to move about in Helsinki, and for getting to Espoo from the direction of Helsinki city centre.

  • We recommend downloading the HSL app for your phone to digitally buy transportation tickets within the Helsinki metropolitan region. The app is available for free in most app stores.
  • HSL’s route advisor is your best friend in any situation where you need to know how to get from point A to point B! This service is also in the HSL app.
  • Please note: The main railroad station’s metro stop ”Rautatientori” will be under maintenance during our event, so the closest metro station operating from the city centre westwards to Espoo is Kamppi. Kamppi is within a short tram-ride or walking distance when travelling from close to the University of Helsinki or the main railroad station.

Parking is available near several campus buildings and along roadsides at the Aalto Campus. The parking areas are marked in the campus map. Some parking areas require a university permit or other permit, some a parking disc or parking fee.

The venues at the University of Helsinki are at the heart of the city, so parking may be harder to find. There are parking halls with fees close to the venue, as well as paid roadside parking.

Coffee Breaks &

Lunch

We will be serving coffee every day – excluding the open day on Wednesday – both in the morning, as well as in the afternoon together with some small snacks.

Lunch will be at the guests’ own cost. There are restaurants right next to our sessions’ venues at both the Aalto and University of Helsinki campuses serving food at a reasonable price (from 8,60€ to 10,40€). The restaurants’ opening hours are more flexible than the allotted slot for lunch in the programme, and you’re free to grab lunch when it best suits you.

In addition to the student restaurants, there are multiple dining options/stores nearby at both Aalto’s and University of Helsinki’s campuses

Espoo & Helsinki

Attractions

While we’re sure you’ve checked out the Hyytiälä excursion when registering for the conference, there’s plenty more to see and do in Helsinki and Espoo during downtime from the conference.

If you have any questions about the conference arrangements or logistics, please don’t hesitate to contact us at sri@futureearth.org
