SRI2021 will be opened by Nunukul Yuggera on behalf of the Traditional Custodians of the Country on which Brisbane is based. This ceremony includes a short speech by an Elder or Representative, welcoming guests to the Traditional Homelands from the Yuggera, Nunukul, Koombermerri and Nugi Tribes, and a smoking ceremony to cleanse the area of bad spirits.

Learning from Indigenous ways of knowing and doing across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand: Part 2 (Frameworks)

As explored in Part 1 (Monday 13 June, 3 pm), indigenous communities have, over thousands of years, developed sophisticated ways of knowing and being. As holders of knowledge and tradition, First Nations peoples lead in the utilisation of these frameworks. This session will respond to researchers, practitioners, decision-makers, funders and managers asking, “where do I start?”, and introduce examples of some of the best practice frameworks and tools which have been developed across different parts of Oceania.

FUTURE AFRICA SATELLITE

In partnership with SRI, the Future Africa Research Institute at the University of Pretoria and the Future Earth Regional Office for Southern Africa (FEROSA) will be hosting the SRI2021 Africa satellite event. The hybrid event (with both in-person and online attendees) convenes experts from across Africa on the SRI Congress Platform through live streaming on 14 and 15 June 2021 from 14:00-17:00 SAST on each day. Both in-person and online attendees can experience two days of connecting with the global sustainability community, learn about the latest sustainability science, create novel networks and gain visibility.
The event will showcase two onsite panels from Africa which will be streamed live to the SRI Congress platform and two Africa focused panels which will be streamed live from the SRI Congress platform. All panels will include a moderated Q&A. The Satellite event will form part of the main SRI Congress with its sessions live streamed to main SRI Congress.
